Masts and booms

All the elements for three ships are cast and ready to assemble. Today, my main targets were two sets of masts and booms for “Pionier I” and “Njord”. I am working on this pair of ships simutanenously to spare some time. I did’n plan to write about this, but I’ve changed my mind after I found my “Graal” in this particular matter.

To be honest I never liked the masts made of wires, because of the boring and unaccurate shape. Sanded polystyrene elements never were rigid enough, especially when diameter wass less than 1mm. Yesterday in one of my messy drawer I foud a carbon fibered wire, which I bought years ago, and almost forgot about it. Just to try the material out,  I used a small and worn off piece of sand paper and in a few second achieved desired effect. Than I glued small polistyrene elements and placed bow masts in places. The method works. Now I am thinking about the rest of the derricks I hate the most… these damn rigging 🙁
